Freedom of Information

Freedom of Information Manual

The Freedom of Information Acts, 1997 and 2003 (FoI Acts) establish three statutory rights:

  1. a legal right for each person to access information held by public bodies,
  2. a legal right for each person to have official information relating to him/herself amended where it is incomplete, incorrect or misleading,
  3. a legal right for each person to obtain reasons for decisions affecting him/herself.

The National Social Work Qualifications Board (NSWQB) already makes available to the public information on its functions and activities through annual reports, information leaflets and discussion with staff members. The NSWQB is committed to maintaining a high standard of service in this regard and information will continue to be available informally without the need to use the Freedom of Information Act. This Manual highlights areas where such information is available from the NSWQB.

The Freedom of Information Acts facilitate public access to information held by public bodies which is not routinely available by other means. The Acts assert the right of members of the public to obtain access to information to the greatest extent possible, consistent with public interest and the right to privacy of individuals. This manual highlights where information is available from the NSWQB under the FoI Acts. Access to information under the Acts is subject to certain exemptions and involves specific procedures and time limits, which are outlined in section 5.

Section 15 Manual
This Manual has been prepared and published in accordance with the requirements of Section 15 of the Freedom of Information Acts, 1997 and 2003. Its purpose is to facilitate your access to information held by the NSWQB.

Section 16 Manual
Section 16 of the FoI Acts requires the publication of information regarding the rules, procedures and guidelines used by the NSWQB. This information is presented in sections 7 and 8.
