The NSWQB is the designated authority for the profession of social work in Ireland under EU Directive 2005/36/EC as provided for in S.I. 135 of 1996.
Those who hold non-national social work qualifications and who wish to work as professional social workers in Ireland should apply for accreditation to the NSWQB.
Applications must be supported with a fully completed Application Form, proof of identity, administration fee and details of training, in the original.
Following receipt of complete application, the NSWQB will decide on the outcome, usually within two-four months. The NSWQB may declare the applicant eligible for accreditation, ineligible for accreditation or alternatively, offer the applicant a choice between aptitude test and adaptation period.
Accreditation of holders of non-national social work qualifications is based on criteria in respect of length of training, level of training, curriculum content and recognition in country of qualification.
